One of the scene’s most exciting genre-fluid names SONIKKU unveils his double-A 12” EP on Bella Union, ‘Heatwave/Drowning’, out now on vinyl/digital. Previously released EP single ‘Heatwave’ already won support from tastemakers inc. Relinkdata (MX), Radio Eins (DE), Amazing Radio, Electronic Groove, Babystep, Magnetic Mag, Ibero 90.9 (MX), while ‘Drowning’ can be heard for the first time.

SONIKKU’s latest Bella Union LP ‘Whirlwind of Malevolence’ won support from Mixmag, BBC 6, BBC Radio 1, Reprezent Radio, Notion, DMY, Rinse, DJ Mag Italia, Beatportal, Triple J… while his July EP ‘Kissing in the Strobe Light’ on Jaguar’s UTOPIA was championed by Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Rinse FM... His most productive year so far, from his January ‘The World is Bleak but Sometimes Beautiful’ EP, to a US tour, remixing pop princess Ava Max, and playing for London’s Keep Hush and Soho Pride, continues with the new Heatwave/Drowning’ EP, guaranteed to keep summer alive year-long.  

EP focus track ‘Drowning’: Long, heart-stirring harmonium-esque chords over tinkling water droplets usher in lively, dance-friendly breakbeat percussion. A breathy, ethereal female vocal and a plangent main theme make for a dreamy escapist feel. ‘The kind of song that plays in my head when I dive into clear blue water and feel like I'm entering another universe. I knew this and ‘Heatwave’ had to come out together, they both have a summer vibe,’ says SONIKKU. 

‘Heatwave’: a slice of poppy dancefloor fun with a wistful edge and a yearning vocal. ‘A 'holiday song' - that Balearic track you hear on the radio or in a beach bar that you can't get enough of, you have to find out what it is and take it home like a souvenir.’

A key component of London’s club culture, SONIKKU’s played at Village Underground, fabric, Corsica Studios, C12 Brussels, Public Works (SF), Carpet Shop Peckham, alongside artists inc. BIIANCO, MCR-T, Jaguar, Machine Woman…, previously collaborated with the late icon SOPHIE, Partiboi69, Orchid, Deto Black amm, and released on Steel City Dance Discs and Lobster Theremin. Upcoming shows inc. Dreamland, Leeds (Oct 17^th), Zig Fest, São Paulo (Nov 7^th), Brussels and Birmingham TBA, following gigs in Mexico City, Glasgow…
