Dina Summer presents Children Of The Night
It’s difficult to listen to Children Of The Night without imagining strobes, smoke machines and a dancefloor somewhere after midnight. Dina Summer have perfected a particularly addictive combination of dark electronics, oversized synth hooks and punky pop attitude, and this mini album brings all of those elements together.
“Burning Heart” and “Bats In Paris” tap into the Italo-disco side of the project, while “Fuel”, “Komodo 3000” and “Children Of The Night” feel built for darker rooms and later hours. Then there are tracks like “Rat Race” and “On The Road”, which push further into melancholic darkwave territory.
The result is remarkably cohesive despite the stylistic range. Nothing sounds like a simple throwback; instead, Dina Summer use familiar ingredients to create something that feels fresh, dramatic and very danceable.
Children Of The Night is exactly the kind of record that makes sense at 2am: catchy enough to sing along to, dark enough to keep the lights off, and weird enough to keep things interesting.
